Water Conservation Challenge - Are you In?

Water the commodity

Have you wondered the condition of our planet and how large of a species we have become? Humans have been growing at a rapid rate and whats important for our survival among other things is water.

Water is 2 hydrogen atoms combined with an oxygen atom. its simple, yet beautiful all on its own. My chemistry is not the greatest, but i did pick this up because its crucial for our existence.

Benefits of Water

Other than the simple consumption of water, water serves us through many different means. We use water to wash our clothes. This is important for hygiene, which leads us to cleaning our bodies. Our world is full of bacteria and water in combination of chemicals are used to clean our bodies from germs and bacteria that is harmful for us. We use water to cool down things like machines, and proactively cover our own damages like nuclear waste, and more. We use water to plant and water our landscaping. We even use water to power our cars, even though its not as popular as gasoline.

Water Scarcity

Water can become a commodity that is hard to find and with that said I want to focus on needs vs requirements of water consumption.

We need to shower, and clean ourselves but watering our lawn is not a necessity. We are humans and we need to connect with nature but having non native plants in our gardens are draining our water supply.

Lawn Maintenance and Care

Back in the 1970's - 1990's I remember large green lawns and flush Augustine grass all over my neighborhood. Some how that is not reality anymore. The water we know today is becoming more and more costly which has a direct correlation to the amount of reserves we have available.

Communities have options when it comes to removing and replacing lawns. Some homeowners replace lawns with concrete for more car storage, sports playgrounds, and other kid related activities. Other homeowners are replacing lawns with a California Xeriscape style designs.

I like many others, love the opportunity to include both concrete and xeriscape style landscaping for my clients front and back yard. It is our responsibility to choose a sustainable landscaping design for our homes. Its our obligation to our community to preserve water, and find alternative energy and water as more and more people move to the cities.
